A new painting

This painting is the smaller sister of “I remember you in the ocean”, a piece I made in 2023. That piece is dear to my heart and so is this new little one.

The title, “Silly string,” refers to the string wrapped around the both of us, and memories I have from being a kid. My father often said that “the only rule” at his house, after my parents divorced, was that “there are no rules!” This involved a lot of chaos. I have memories of him frequently buying silly string and spraying it everywhere with me. We’d cover his car, the walls, the floors, ceilings, often leaving behind permanent stains and crusty dried string. I think it’s an interesting metaphor for our relationship.
